You have good candidates who lose political races because of their stance on the issues. You also have bad candidates who lose political races because of their stance on the issues. Then you have bad candidates who drop out of political races because they are losing. When these candidates promptly turn against the party that got them there, you have a turncoat. But when this same candidate goes on a liberal talk show on CNN and says that she plans to remain a Republican instead of doing the honest thing and officially switching to the Democrat Party, you have a really bad advertisement for the GOP.
The first time I had ever heard of either DeDe Scozzafava or Doug Hoffman was when I started doing research for Republicans who were running in political races where the Democrat was either the incumbent or leading the race. After reading some newspaper articles and her website, I knew right away that Ms. Scozzafava was a RINO – a Republican in Name Only. I am conservative through and through and everything she said she stands for are things that I am against. My instincts were proven correct.
A week before the election, too late to have her name removed from the ballot, she jumped ship and threw her support to the Democratic candidate in the race for NY-23, Bill Owens. I may be speaking out of turn here because I don’t know this to be a fact since I live miles from New York State, but I believe the reason Doug Hoffman filed as a Conservative Party Candidate was because the Republican Party had railroaded him out thinking he could not win. Even though the Republican Party leadership knew the candidate they backed was recognized as being more liberal than 47% of her liberal cohorts in the New York State Assembly, they ignored normal procedure and picked Scozzafava without giving the people of NY-23 the right to voice their opinions.
Conservative endorsements were added to Doug Hoffman and when the endorsement came from Sarah Palin, a real fire was lit under Conservative voters all across America. In the groups I am active in, we call it a “Sarah Palin Type, Type, Enter” which means she endorsed Mr. Hoffman’s candidacy from her Facebook page. That was all it took to get Conservative Americans and Sarah Palin supporters into the check-writing business to the benefit of Mr. Hoffman.
As of today, this election has yet to be certified. I have no idea how it will eventually end, but I think it is safe to say that the right candidate dropped out of the race. Ms. Scozzafava is proving that the Republicans initially put their money on the wrong horse. On November 12, Ms. Scozzafava appeared on the CNN Rachel Maddow program and said some very unflattering things about the Republican Party. Politico gave it a good write-up and now the Democrat candidate stands to be “un-elected.” I apologize if this offends you, but here in the South, we have a saying: “Be careful what you ask for – you might just get it.” It always seems to be true regardless of the situation.
Ms. Scozzafava is now saying that the GOP is “really not based on any sort of substance.” She told CNN’s Rachel Maddow that the Republicans can not move an agenda forward that can “really help people in this country.” Ms. Scozzafava continued, “I don’t think it’s good for the health of our party. Any party that just tries to purge members that might have any sort of independent thinking, I think, eventually will run itself to very much of a minority status.” Her opinion is that the Republicans need to reach some sort of consensus with more liberal members of the party.
This is exactly why so many people have left the confines of the Republican Party for the viability of the Conservative Party – no compromise. As Conservatives, we know what we believe and we stick by it. We don’t want liberalism which leads to Socialism and all kinds of other “isms” to cloud the agenda of the candidates we support.
So this bad advertisement continues. She says she has no plans to leave the Republican Party for the warmer, more liberal arms of the Democrats. This, my friend, is why we need the Conservative Party.
